Meet the Marble Falls Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.

We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at 6 a.m. or when you’re staring at a spring that looks like a slinky gone wrong. Every person on this page lives in the Hill Country or grew up not far from Marble Falls. What ties us together isn’t a handbook. It’s the K.E.Y.S. code we train under, and the fact that none of us can stand leaving a job half-finished.

Our People

Carl Dutton, Owner

I started Mainspring in 1984, back when Marble Falls was a fraction of the size it is now. The name comes from the mainspring, the coil that carries the full weight of a door. I figured if you’re going to stake your name on something, it ought to be the part that does the heavy lifting. These days I still answer the phone when the lines back up, still drive out to jobs when a homeowner wants to talk through options face to face. I sign off on every 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing because I got tired of watching other trades argue with customers over what “fixed” means. When I’m not working, I’m usually fishing Lake LBJ or explaining to my wife why the garage at our house is the last one in Texas to get a new door.

Mike R., Lead Technician

Mike’s been with us fourteen years, which in garage-door time means he’s seen just about every failure mode the Hill Country can throw at a system. He’s factory-certified on LiftMaster and Genie openers, and he’s the one we send when a job has stumped someone else. Mike grew up in Kingsland and still lives there with his wife and two dogs that he claims are “not allowed in the garage” but definitely are. His left pinky is slightly crooked from a cable snap he caught early in his career. He keeps it that way as a reminder to never rush a tension release.

Darlene K., Senior Installer

Darlene joined us in 2019 after eight years doing commercial overhead doors in Austin. She specializes in full replacements, particularly the insulated steel and carriage-house styles that have gotten popular around Marble Falls and Meadowlakes. She’s Clopay- and Amarr-certified and has a knack for spotting frame rot or header sag before the new door goes in, which saves homeowners a second visit. Darlene lives in Granite Shoals, keeps bees in her backyard, and will talk your ear off about pollen flow if you let her. She drives the biggest truck in our fleet because she refuses to make two trips for anything.

James T., Service Coordinator

James is the live voice you get when you call (737) 520-8686 at 10 p.m. on a Sunday. He’s been with Mainspring six years and knows our inventory down to the last torsion spring. He schedules the calls, confirms parts are on the right truck, and stays on the line with nervous homeowners until a technician is actually pulling into the driveway. James is from Burnet originally and still commutes up 281 every morning. He collects vintage Texas license plates and has a 1972 Marble Falls city tag hanging above his desk that he found at a garage sale in Cottonwood Shores.

Elena V., Apprentice Technician

Elena started with us in 2023 after completing a mechanical program at Central Texas College. She’s working toward her journeyman certification under Mike’s supervision and has already developed a reputation for being the person who actually reads the manual before assembling a Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster system. Elena grew up in Horseshoe Bay and knows the gated-community access protocols that slow down other service companies. She lives in an apartment in Marble Falls with a cat that she’s trained to stay away from garage doors. Her current goal is to beat Mike’s record for fastest safe spring replacement. She’s close.

One Standard, Every Job

Every person on this page answers to the same standard, whether the job is in Marble Falls, Meadowlakes, Granite Shoals, or up toward Burnet. The 90-Day Done Right Promise applies the same way. The upfront flat price is stated before work begins, every time. Background checks and uniforms are non-negotiable. Trucks stay stocked so we’re not burning your daylight waiting on parts from Austin.

We’ve been at this since 1984. The Hill Country has changed plenty since then. The limestone’s still hard, the cedar fever’s still miserable, and a broken garage door still leaves your home exposed. Our team’s job is to fix it once, fix it right, and let you get back to your day. If we don’t get it right, we come back. No paperwork, no arguing. That’s the deal.
